Blues and Roots Ensemble has hosted jazz education projects for EFG London Jazz Festival and Cambridge Jazz Festival, as well as running a holiday course in partnership with Marryat Players.

The Blues and Roots Ensemble educators pride themselves on being able to offer musicians of any age, ability or any instrument the opportunity to play alongside professional members of the band and learn to improvise in a creative and friendly setting. 

A typical jazz festival workshop includes participants learning compositions by Charles Mingus either by ear or with sheet music, followed by a joint performance with the band.

The EFG London Jazz Festival 2018 Mass Participation Project gave the band the opportunity to work with 120 musicians aged between 6 and mid 70s, performing a 45 minute suite of Mingus arrangements at the Southbank Centre.
